Full Moon and Labor?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and was curious what effect the full moon has on labor? Tonight is a full moon, Dec. 23rd. Yesterday I started having braxton hicks-and diarrea. Two days ago I started retaining fluid in my feet and ankles. They look like elephant feet. haha! Today was the first day that I have not wanted to take a nap...I'm not tired. I am actually up and about,,,and fixing to beat the crowds at Wal-Mart! and then come home and finish up on last minute things. Not saying I'm going into labor,,,but just was curious what your opinions were the full moon and labor? Thanks a bunch!

Full Moon and Labor?
It's true, Hospitals have documented cases with more labors going into effect with the full moon. It's because of the hormones that are released, and the increased gravitational pull with the moon. (it's like the tides, they are different when it's a full moon..)
Reply:btw, I forgot, and no one else put it (I think) so good luck and congratulations on your new baby!!!!! Report It

Reply:My firend is an OB nurse, and she says it's actually true. Something about a hormone that's released and can cause cause labor, and the gravitiational pull of the moon. I asked my OB about it and he told me it was true too.
Reply:Yes it is true, and it also true that there is more crime on full moons and more facilitated interaction among people.

For all of this there appears to be a rational and evolutionary explaination. For thousands of years the only illumination after sunset was fire or moonlight. On moonless nights, humanoids could only huddle by a fire or sit in the dark. So the day was in some sense extended by a full moon, and nightiime activity became possible. Over eons of time, there developed in humans (as in other animals) a sense of excitement and an impulse to action on full moons.

Crime and birth statistics are an undsiputable proof of the assertiion.

Best of good luck to you and the tiny one.
Reply:lol, I have the same exact scenario! I'm 38 weeks pregnant and will be induced next Sunday due to high blood pressure unless she arrives before then!

I went to the ER in October and the doctor in labor %26amp; delivery looked outside at the full moon and goes "tonight's going to be a busy night!" And there was a full moon on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and I started having contractions that had to be stopped since it would have been too early for her to arrive! So my husband and I are definitely watching this developing full moon as well, it should be in full effect tomorrow night. Oftentimes, because of the gravitational force of the moon, it primarily effects the breaking of your water membranes and the effects from the moon can take 3 days after to really take effect.

Good luck!
Reply:Thanks for posting this question- I'm 38 weeks +6 days and I've been having more BH contractions today than before. I've heard rumors that the moon has something to do with labor, but I never believed it. Cool.
Reply:amazing isnt it.. im 36 weeks and last night first time i had contractions ( BH) which lasted for few minutes and continued at night , and onset of diarrea. i was trying to figure out i havent done any thing physically heavy yesterday that started all that . i guess its all due to full moon. :) yes i also heard about effect of full moon on human behaviours but in case of preg .. now its my personal experince..wish u healthy baby
Reply:Well i sure hope its true lol. Yesterday was my due date and I really want to have my baby girl already! I did wake up this morning with some bad cramps and I feel like I'm going to start my period. Wish me luck..and pray for me so I can have my healthy baby soon.
