someone I know has feet that smell sooooo bad, they could kill a bull elephant at 100 paces! poor girl......

What can you do about smelly feet?
Sweaty feet start to smell because the moist skin tends to encourage the growth of certain skin bacteria that produce an odour. The sweat itself is odourless.





There are antibiotics that will eradicate the bacteria (and their odour) within about three weeks. These include topical treatments on the feet such as Fucidin cream or Clindamycin lotion, and oral medication such as Erythromycin.





You would need to discuss any medication with your GP.





You are probably aware that the problem can return if your feet remain persistently damp with sweat. Dermatologists advise that you try to keep your feet dry in the following ways:





Wear boots for as short a period as possible.





Wear socks that effectively absorb sweat, i.e. cotton and/or wool.





Wear open-toed sandals whenever possible.





Wash feet with soap or antibacterial cleanser twice daily.





Apply antiperspirant to the feet at least twice weekly [roll-on antiperspirant, 20% aluminum chloride solution]





Do not wear the same shoes two days in a row - dry them out.





Do not share footwear or towels with others.





If you really can't manage to reduce the sweating in this way, then discuss the problem with your GP so that some routine tests and a specialist referral can be considered.

Reply:She may have a foot fungus that is causing the stench. Tell her to buy some Monostat or other yeast infection cream and put on her feet. It will cure the bacteria causing the odor.
